Why sell your jewellery with Hepplewhites?

Traditionally, those seeking to sell jewellery – from necklaces and bracelets, to rings, earrings, brooches or diamond jewellery – might assume a public auction to be the most effective approach to get the best prices for their items. However, because of the current buyer’s premium of 30% (inclusive of VAT), the buyers bidding on your items will reduce their bids accordingly.

Additionally, an auction house will also charge you a seller’s fee, illustration fee and insurance, as well as VAT, meaning that if your item sells you will only receive 45% of its true value and if your item doesn’t sell, you will still be responsible for paying the auction house certain fees.

Additionally, an auction house will also charge you a seller’s fee, illustration fee and insurance, as well as VAT, meaning that if your item sells you will only receive 45% of its true value and if your item doesn’t sell, you will still be responsible for paying the auction house certain fees.

In addition, it may take up to three months after the auction house consigns your pieces for the first appropriate sale to occur and at least another month until you are paid, making a total of four months minimum before you receive any payment. Any unsold pieces will be re-entered to another sale, often taking several months before another suitable sale is available. Furthermore, since the item has already been exposed to the market, you will have to lower your price in order to encourage the sale, as your item will now be less appealing to potential customers.

Choosing Hepplewhites gives you peace of mind that you will receive your item’s true market value; a streamlined and discreet approach to selling your jewellery, without the risk of any unsold items or delayed payments. We pay 100% of our valuation to you.

How do we deliver such precise jewellery valuations?

Our specialists possess qualifications from both Gem-A (Gemological Association of Great Britain) and GIA (Gemological Institute of America), ensuring that you receive accurate and reliable assessments. Here are the key factors we consider when evaluating your jewellery.

Gemstones and gemstone qualities

Our experts thoroughly examine the gemstones within a piece of jewellery, considering factors such as colour, clarity, cut, carat weight and origin. By carefully assessing these qualities we can determine the rarity and desirability of each gemstone, which plays a crucial role in determining its value.

Age and craftsmanship

Vintage and antique jewellery often have unique characteristics and historical significance that is highly valued in today’s market. We consider the age of the jewellery, its condition and the level of craftsmanship involved. These factors contribute to the overall jewellery value and appeal, particularly to our collectors.

Finesse of precious metals

Unlike most jewellers, Hepplewhites do not just purchase pieces as “scrap value” but instead purchase the piece as an individual article. We pay close attention to the metal used in creating the jewellery, as well as the finesse of the metal; whether its platinum, gold or silver, the quality and intricacy of the metalwork can impact your jewellery valuation.

Designer pieces

We specialise In vintage and modern jewellery, from renowned makers such as Cartier, Tiffany and Co, Van Cleef and Arpels, Bulgari and other major jewellery houses. These brands are all taken into consideration and are items that we pay a high premium for.

Our comprehensive jewellery valuation process ensures you receive the full market value for your jewellery. Whether you’re looking to sell or gain a better understanding of your jewellery’s value, you can trust that our experts will provide you with accurate, fair and transparent assessments.
